2012 Mahoney Vermentino Las Brisas Vineyard 2010 Mahoney Albariño Las Brisas Vineyard 2011 Mahoney Vineyards Chardonnay Gavin Vineyard
In 2003, we introduced this new varietal from Mahoney Vineyards.  At that time, we had to explain what Vermentino is, and why Francis and Kathy would plant it at their Las Brisas Vineyard.  We have received a fantastic response from you, as well as the press. Vermentino continues to be one of Francis’ and Ken’s favorite wines.  This dry Italian varietal exhibits white peaches and citrus flavors with lovely floral notes. The refreshing and crisp finish is a perfect compliment to any spring or summer gathering. Enjoy with bread and cheese, your favorite shellfish, or just as an aperitif. The 2010 Albariño is packed with tropical fruit flavors and aromas of pear and honeysuckle.  In the mouth, this wine is crisp and clean. The pear and nectarine flavors are richer and more intense than those in 2007. Allow this wine to evolve in the glass if you have the patience and you will be well rewarded. This is a versatile, food-friendly wine, that pairs well with traditional seafood entrées, pastas with richer cream sauces, or roasted chicken dishes. 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition GOLD MEDAL Winner
The Gavin Vineyard, named for Kathy’s family, comprises two blocks adjacent to the winery. These vines produce low yields of fruit with concentrated flavors. We harvested into small bins and went directly to press with whole clusters to minimize handling. Gentle pressing, a short settling period and barrel fermentation with a wide array of yeasts helped create complexity while preserving fruit character. Extended aging sur lie added richness and helped integrate French oak notes with the fruit. This complex wine has forward citrus and Granny Smith apple notes layered with yeasty toast and sweet oak.
2009 Mahoney Sangiovese Las Brisas Vineyard 2009 Mahoney Tempranillo Las Brisas Vineyard 2009 Mahoney Tempranillo Las Brisas Vineyard
The 2009 Mahoney Vineyards Las Brisas Vineyard Sangiovese represents our first 100% varietal release of this Italian wine staple. In Italy, this grape makes up the predominant percentage in Carmignano, Chianti, Morellino di Scansano, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (not to be confused with the varietal Montepulciano).

The 2009 Sangiovese is drop dead gorgeous. It delivers great fruit, subtle oak, and showcases the Las Brisas terroir brilliantly. Black pepper, clove, and cinnamon on the nose flow into flavors of dark cherry, deep plum, cranberry, with a hint of classic orange peel that rounds out this delightful wine. Salute.
This versatile and revered Spanish variety, the principal component of the great Riojas, has fared well at Las Brisas, providing us wine with brighter fruit and a more refreshing finish than anticipated. Our Tempranillo shows excellent depth of both red and black fruits with abundant cherry and berry aromas and flavors, supple textures and good substance without hard tannins. 2009 Mahoney Carneros Syrah 2007 Mahoney Carneros Syrah 2009 Mahoney Carneros Pinot Noir
New Animated GIF

This Syrah comes from hillside vines on southwestern-facing slopes across from our winery. This area allows full ripening even in our cool climate. The exposure produces rich, supple wines with dark berry fruit while retaining the signature pepper notes found in classic Rhone wines. This midnight-black wine offers elaborate and inviting aromas of blackberry, black tea and lavender. The very rich and complex finish has a lush mouth feel that will continue to develop in bottle. Very limited production.

The wine displays wonderfully structured mouthfeel accompanied by layer upon layer of abundant red fruit flavors and varietal spice.
2009 Mahoney Nebbiolo Las Brisas Vineyard 2009 Mahoney Montepulciano Las Brisas Vineyard
Our 2009 Las Brisas vineyard Nebbiolo is a luscious mouthful of wine.  Rich, ripe flavors of dried cranberry and cherry are perfectly complimented by a touch of French oak.  This wine has firm tannins and a refreshing acidity that will pair perfectly with steak, a hearty stew, dry aged cheese, or similar fare.  With a scant production totaling 4 barrels, this extremely limited 2009 Nebbiolo will be one of those treasures that is sure to go fast, so place your orders early. Francis planted this variety after his trip with Kathy to Italy in 2000. This red grape is not the Sangiovese clone (called Prugnolo Gentile) of Vino Nobile de Montepulciano in Tuscany, rather it is the Montepulciano widely planted in the hills of central Italy along the Adriatic, most notably in the Abruzzo region. Grown in the cool Las Brisas Vineyard, it makes an intensely scented and flavored wine full of plums, blackberries and spice, with firm acidity and pleasant tannins. Sourced from one of the pioneer vineyards in the Carneros region, this wine is a blend of Pinot Noir clones we do not grow in our vineyards at Mahoney. The enticing nose is full of raspberries and blueberries with a hint of anise and the mouth feel is velvety, while the great tannin structure will allow the wine to age brilliantly.
2010 Mahoney Vineyards Pinot Noir Mahoney Ranch
Our vineyard’s name acknowledges the dependable and beneficial Pacific breezes that blow through it from the Petaluma Gap in the coastal range, cooling the vines and producing gradual ripening of the grapes. This vineyard produces pure expressions of ripe, red cherry fruit and spicy notes, making wines with lovely textures and a harmonious integration of fruit with oak. While this wine shows well in its youth, it has enough structure to evolve for several years to come. This wine is pure Carneros, grown in the vineyard across from the winery which has produced some of our favorite wines over the last 30 years. Rarely do individual lots of Pinot Noir express intense fruit and deep structure at the same time, yet these did, showing lovely black cherry notes with a pervasive fusion of perfume, black pepper and allspice in the nose. The wine has ample tannins, well-integrated oak and a lush, supple texture. New Animated GIF

The mild temperatures throughout the 2010 growing season allowed the vines ample time to mature and impart an abundance of structure and elegance into the wines. This Mahoney Ranch Pinot delivers a textured richness and layer upon layer of dark fruit flavors that linger on the palate. This is an age-worthy Pinot that will grow more luscious with a few years in the cellar, but for those with a palate for richer, more tannic wines, you’ll love it already! Limited quantities available.
