2020 Mahoney Family Vineyards Las Brisas Vineyard Albariño
This small planting of Albariño lies in the center of our Las Brisas Vineyard, a foggy and windy site on the Sonoma side of Carneros. Here, the cooling influence of San Francisco Bay helps to prolong the ripening process, developing fruit flavors while retaining bright acidity. For the 2020 vintage, the grapes were hand harvested in the cold early morning hours, then whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation was conducted at cold temperatures, then the wine was racked to neutral French oak to age on the yeast lees for about 7 months. The resulting wine has a lovely fusion of floral and apricot aromas, and a balance between suppleness and crisp acidity in the mouth. While delicious on its own, it has the structure to pair beautifully with a wide array of meals from seafood pasta to herb-roasted chicken.
