Not sure what it is about vintages that end in a “7” but for whatever reason, wines from these once-in-a-decade vintages seem to have more complexity and structure than most. Our 2017 Mahoney Ranch Pinot from our Napa vineyard always tends to be the most dense and rich of our Pinots and the 2017 vintage is no exception.
At first glance the richness of this Pinot is apparent. The dark ruby hue sets the stage for a dark-fruited aroma profile with black cherry, blackberry, and hints of Magenta plums. On the palate, rich layered fruit envelops the palate with the depth and complexity we typically find in our Mahoney Ranch Pinot Noir. The long, enjoyable finish make this wine an accompaniment to bolder dishes with dark sauces like a lamb shank with a reduction sauce.
